the moss and detritus under foot root me to the earth the chatter of birds rises and falls circles and weaves a blanket of mist to still my racing mind
the breeze through the leaves winks light and shadow across my vision
a disco dance of dappled light a kaleidoscope a trance
welcome to the forest they say you are safe you are home
My love for mushrooms is a growing guiding force in my life and because of this wild admiration I think I've always been afraid to include them in my art. The wonder and excitement they awake in me has always felt too intimidating, too personal--I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do them justice. As I lean into my practice I'm attempting to banish the tendencies I have to play it safe. To act out of fear. Bring on the year of the mushroom.

A growing collection of illustrated recipes, meticulously hand printed on high quality 18”x24” Rives printmaking paper.
What started as just a few vegetable prints has grown into a collection of illustrated favorites recipes. These large scale prints are a nod to the nostalgia of family meals and highlight the communal aspects of food centered gatherings. While sharing a meal may give us an excuse to come together, it is the magical space such gatherings create that foster connection, meaning, and memories. Food is a conduit to genuine human relationships– building blocks in the foundation of a strong community. Kassandra’s detailed prints honor the beauty of these simple ingredients and the transformative power food and relationships have in our lives.

art squared fundraisers
An annual September fundraising show with a proceeds benefitting ArtWalla. ArtWalla is a local non-profit that organizes and supports the art community and offers grants to working artists and organizations. Since 2023, Kassandra has donated eight 6”x6” works each year.
